Thursday night is speedway night at Arlington stadium |
We are proud to be sponsors of Heat 3 for the Eagles in 2010 |
Thursday 5th August 2010 7.45 pm EAGLES versus POOLE PIRATES in Sky Sports League meetingQuote from a long distance fan:- With money hardly awash in Speedway the “Kids for a Quid” initiative seems a sensible step forward. Speedway has much going for it in terms of the family – a friendly atmosphere, exciting racing and decent value. Given I live a fair way from the circuit I’m unaware of what other promotion goes on in the local area – are local school-kids actually aware of the speedway, do we have riders visiting schools to promote the sport dishing out free tickets for kids to attend (hopefully with their paying parents)? Compared with the cost and experience of attending your average Premier League football match Speedway is such a refreshing change – I would just love to see how long your average Premiership footballer would stay down if they experienced some of the crashes our riders take in their stride. Anything that helps swells crowds would benefit all not only in terms of the finances but the whole shared experience – I can well remember listening to my late Father talking about 30,000+ crowds at Custom House back in the late 1940’s with a real sense of envy. Obviously those days of large crowds for league meetings are long gone with so many alternatives now on offer but if we can secure the odd few extra hundred fans it will be step forward in the right direction. The key will be making the kids stick with us. Personally I can’t help thinking the Thursday night change has made this more difficult, for example my own 9 year old Daughter can now only effectively attend in the school holidays. Another thing I remember her mentioning was that at one stage hardly any of her "heroes" from last season appeared likely to return this year – something that was thankfully resolved, but at the time she found it really disappointing. Obviously CMA’s make no changes virtually impossible/desirable at the end of a season however some continuity would I feel help us grow the younger fan base? Another fan who travels a long distance said :-
I think you inadvertantly re-itterated everything
that is wrong with this offer. Kids of 11 and under are unlikely to be able
to go to Speedway on a school night (Thursday) if it means getting home at
10.30p.m.+. Also if you have a look at most of the kids under 12 at the
Speedway they have very little interest at all in what is actually going on,
quite understandably so at that age. Here the Eastbourne management had a
real chance to encourage families back to Arlington and encourage the fans
of the next few years, not the possible fans of 10 years time. They blew it
big time. All they have succeeded in doing is to alienate more of their
fans. A total PR disaster. All that was needed was to advertise 'Kids for a
Quid', and actually allow in 'Kids for a Quid'. Instead they chose a
half-hearted, cheap alternative. Join the discussion at http://whereeaglesdaretofly.myfreeforum.org/viewtopic.php?p=17219#17219
